Original Species: The Wimblekin & Hushling

September 2025 introduced the first original species in a long time.

From the thistle lined paths and half forgotten hollows come the wimblekin; the keepers of the in between places. Neither fully fae nor beast, they slip through doorways that don’t exist and guard the liminal spaces where many stories are born.
Born from the grief of losing my cousin James in February 2025, the first wimblekin was made to be an emotional support at a really difficult time. A sweet and bumbly creature that leads one from this life to the next, providing honey cake, soft stories and companionship.
The wimblekin size is unique to them and stands snug right between bloom and biggle. They feature jointed ears which are perfect for expressing all the feelings of the animated wimblekin. They have quite a different profile to the average bloomling with a snoot that’s designed to sniff out anything that feels out of place; a leaf that fell too soon, a path that bends the wrong way or a friend that is close to giving up.

An optional ‘hushling’ was created as an optional face.

While the Wimblekin strut about with their proud little snoots, the hushlings are a quieter variety. They are born without the pointy profile and rather than sniffing, they carry out the same role in the Bloomiverse but by relying on a different sense; listening. Their wide soft faces make them seem endlessly thoughtful. Some say they can hear secrets carried on the wind or even in the heartbeat of a tree.

Where wimblekin bumble about and can fuss and fret, hushlings simply are. They gather in clusters sharing warmth and stillness, more likely to make subtle clicky noises with their teeth rather than chatter. Their ears fold gently when they are shy and it is said that a hushling will only speak if the forest is ready to listen.

A rare few are available for the Wimblekin body (wimblekin size) but they are certainly no Wimblekin themselves. They are their own people with their own magic.
